How Social Media Is Driving the Injectables Trend

The injectables trend is growing in popularity every year. In fact, just this year there has been a 42% increase in the number of treatments done. According to the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), these patients are getting cosmetic injectable procedures done because they want to look better in their social media photos.

It may sound unreal, but social media plays a major role in our lives and it’s changing our society. It shapes our interactions with others and, in many ways, helps to define how we feel about ourselves. From candid holiday shots to gym selfies, social media photos are important. Here’s why.

Why Social Media Is So Inspirational

According to Fred Fedok, MD, FACS, president of the AAFPRS, “People are now seeing images of themselves repeatedly. With each glimpse of themselves at different times of the day, at different angles, and in different social settings and lighting, people are seeing what they look like to the outside world.” Sound familiar?

“Patients come to the office and remark that they ‘didn’t realize’ that this aspect of their nose look that way until they saw certain angle on one of the social media posts,” Fedok added. “Now that they see it, they want it corrected.”

At the Medispa Institute in Dee Why, we often hear the same sentiment. Seeing yourself from multiple angles every day and having these pictures immortalised online can make anyone feel less than perfect. Safe, painless, and quick solutions like injectables are incredibly appealing to anyone looking to make themselves look and feel their best.

Minor Changes Are a Big Thing

There are so many incredible injectables that have a profound affect on your appearance. One of the biggest trends on social media is anti-wrinkle injections. We are seeing people of ages getting preventive treatment so help themselves age more gracefully. Another ultra popular anti-ageing treatment is dermal fillers that gloss over fine lines and wrinkles to create a more youthful look.

Sometimes we see men and women who just aren’t happy with their skin. They see their pictures and say, “it just doesn’t look like me.” Often in this case, we start with a skin assessment. During this procedure, skin is assessed and analysed using 3D face imaging software and we come up with a customised treatment plan to meet each patient’s unique needs.

Of course, body contouring is another incredibly popular treatment. People see photos of themselves online and start noticing little lumps or bumps. Sometimes it is new mums who feel like they’ve lost their figures. Other times it’s people who have always had a healthy diet and active lifestyle yet they can’t seem to move stubborn areas of fat. Permanent fat removal treatments like CoolSculpting are incredible in these cases. They allow busy people to get non-invasive, painless treatments with no downtime. For those ladies who are happy with their figure but fed up with cellulite, VelaShape III is a very popular pick that leaves them feel confident and ready for their next beach selfie!
